Website for painters: how to attract more jobs

May 2026 6 min read Sem van Wijk

A painting company competes mainly on trust. Customers let you into their home. They trust you with their freshly painted window frames, their new house, their carefully chosen colour. How do you make sure your website radiates that trust immediately and delivers jobs?

A painter doesn't sell paint, but a feeling of certainty. The customer wants to know the work will be delivered neatly, that agreements are kept, and that the end result looks sharp for years. Your website must radiate all that certainty before you've even spoken to each other. Below we go through the points that lift a painting website from 'pretty' to 'actually delivers jobs'.

1. Show real work, not stock photos

The biggest mistake on painting company websites: stock photos of anonymous painters with white brushes. Customers want to see your work. Photos of real projects, recognisable situations, before-and-after images.

Tip: Take 5-10 photos with your phone after every job. It costs you 2 minutes and gives your site endless content.

2. Work with before-and-after examples

Nothing is more convincing than a comparison. A weathered wooden window frame next to the same frame after a paint job: that sells itself. Show this prominently on your homepage and project page.

3. Be explicit about your service area

Painters often have a 25-40 km radius within which they work. State this clearly: 'Active in Delft, Rijswijk, Den Hoorn, Nootdorp, Pijnacker and surroundings.' This helps for SEO and for customer expectations.

4. Show your services separately

Not all customers look for the same thing. Make separate pages for:

  • Exterior painting: window frames, facades, fences
  • Interior painting: walls, ceilings, doors
  • Wallpapering and finishing
  • Colour advice

Every page ranks separately on Google for specific search queries.

5. Make requesting quotes easy

People usually compare 2-3 painters. Whoever makes it easiest to request a quote often gets the job. Offer several ways:

  • Form on the website (photo uploads allowed)
  • WhatsApp button straight to your phone
  • Phone number prominent in the header
  • Clickable email address

6. Show reviews

For painters, reviews are the strongest sales argument. No satisfied customer dares lie on Google. Make sure reviews are visible on your homepage, not just on your Google profile.

7. Mention certifications and guarantees

Do you have a trade diploma? Are you affiliated with OnderhoudNL or another industry quality mark? Do you offer a guarantee on your work (5 years exterior painting is customary)? Mention this prominently. It distinguishes a craftsman from a bungler.

8. Be findable for urgent jobs

Many homeowners search based on urgency: 'painter available quickly Westland', 'rotting window frame fix fast'. Create a separate section or page for 'quick intervention' or 'urgent jobs' and you'll capture these searches.

With the eight points above, you have a website that builds trust and delivers jobs. Equally important is avoiding a few common mistakes, as they cost you jobs directly without you noticing.

What a painting company website should NOT do

  • Hidden contact details: phone must always be visible
  • Stock photos of painters that aren't you
  • No clear prices or indications
  • No service area mentioned
  • Slow load times: homeowners drop off quickly

A real-world example

We recently did a redesign for a painting company in Delft. The old website was visually dated, slow, and full of stock photos. The new version shows real project photos, clearly states the service area (Den Hoorn, Delfgauw, Nootdorp, Pijnacker, Rijswijk, Ypenburg), and prominently features a quote request button. Result: significantly more requests via the website within weeks of launch.
